Most of us think that storytelling is, indeed, only to tell stories but, actually, it is not.

Storytelling is the art and technique of conveying a sequence of events or experiences through the use of words, images, sounds, or other forms of communication to create a coherent and engaging narrative. It is a fundamental and universal aspect of human communication and has been an essential part of human culture for thousands of years. - ChatGPT definition.

I think it’s accurate because the idea is an engaging narrative and you can apply it into any aspect of your life, yes, including work, regardles if you are saying “oh come on Pablo, im not gonna be telling tales at work” I know, I know.

The point is that instead of saying something like this:

I had difficulties with the report. 

You can definitely replace it for something like:

You have no idea, I spent like 3 hours in X step, I even went late to bed, fortunately after sitting in front of the computer and with a back pain, I was able to finish it.

In order for you to practice this storytelling in any communication you may have just thinkg of the following 3 steps.

• Breakdown the surrounding context.

• You do have stories tell.

• Apply visual elements.

Here is an example, imagine someone asks you “So, what do you do?”

Instead of replying, “I’m a marketing executive.” pretty plain, no visual idea, no background, just, nothing.

You can say: “I’m a marketing executive. I deal mostly with clients. Just last week we had a crazy client that threatened to send his bodyguards to our office! I definitely wish I dealt more with the creative side.” now THAT’s storytelling and not necessarily thinking of the typical “once upon a time” thing which is not.

So, next time think if you are sitting at a cafe, drinking your coffee with a drop of coffe dripping on a side while enjoying the view out of the window smelling a friday sensation, see I just did storytelling again.

Analyze all your sorrounding and context and practice these three steps and after a while you’ll be able to improve your storytelling in any area of your life.

Controlling the pace when you speak in english is sometimes difficult since the anxiety, the nervousness and the general experiences makes us speak faster without controlling our speech. It’s completely normal and we all go through that.

An excercise to train your sensations and improve your speech is to consciously make pauses while speaking and you cand try it by reading the following paragraph and making a short pause with the marked spaces.
